Claritin - Seasonal Allergy Relief

What Is CLARITIN®?

CLARITIN® is an antihistamine — a type of medicine that blocks the action of histamine, a natural substance in your body that is released by your immune system during an allergic reaction. Antihistamines are often used to treat the symptoms of seasonal allergies — itchy, watery eyes; sneezing; and runny nose.

CLARITIN® provides effective relief from seasonal allergy symptoms caused by airborne pollens from trees, grasses, and weeds. It is also effective in relieving the symptoms of ongoing itching and hives of unknown cause.

Now available over the counter (without a prescription), CLARITIN® won't cause drowsiness like over-the-counter antihistamines and some prescription antihistamines do. And, unlike many other over-the-counter antihistamines, CLARITIN® offers convenient, once-a-day dosing.

How Does CLARITIN® Work?
CLARITIN® works by blocking the histamine released by your body's immune system, thus relieving some of your seasonal allergy symptoms.

Unlike all over-the-counter and some prescription antihistamines (which can make people drowsy), CLARITIN® has no drowsy side effects — so you feel better, not medicated. In studies, the incidence of drowsiness with CLARITIN® was similar to that of a sugar pill at the recommended dose.

Product Overview & Common Side Effects

CLARITIN® (loratadine) Tablets 10 mg are used to treat seasonal allergy symptoms such as sneezing; runny nose; and itchy, watery eyes. Once a day CLARITIN® does not cause drowsiness when taken at the recommended doses, which is common with all over-the-counter and some prescription antihistamines. (Drowsiness rates vary among products.) All antihistamines that cause drowsiness must caution users about operating motor vehicles or heavy machinery. CLARITIN®, on the other hand, is not required to carry such warnings. The most common side effects occurred about as often as they did with a sugar pill, including headache, drowsiness, fatigue, and dry mouth.

CLARITIN® REDITABS® (loratadine rapidly-disintegrating tablets) 10 mg Mint-flavored, non-drowsy CLARITIN® REDITABS® offer convenient, seasonal allergy relief that dissolves on your tongue. You can take it anytime, anyplace without water. And you don't have to worry about feeling groggy — CLARITIN® REDITABS® won't make you sleepy, when taken at the recommended dose.

One CLARITIN® REDITABS® tablet daily delivers effective, 24-hour seasonal allergy relief that's just right for children and adults on the go. So whether you're biking or playing soccer, or even working late at the office, CLARITIN® REDITABS® deliver the seasonal allergy relief you need anytime, anywhere. CLARITIN® REDITABS® (loratadine rapidly-disintegrating tablets) 10 mg are well tolerated, with a low occurrence of side effects. Side effects in adults resembled those seen with CLARITIN Tablets (headache, drowsiness, fatigue, and dry mouth) and were similar to those with a sugar pill.

CLARITIN® (loratadine) Syrup 10 mg/10 mL: CLARITIN® Syrup is the only non-drowsy antihistamine for kids as young as 6 years of age for relief of seasonal allergy symptoms. Ask your doctor if CLARITIN® Syrup may be right for your child. One dose of CLARITIN® Syrup relieves sneezing; runny nose; and itchy, watery eyes for a full 24 hours, without making children sleepy or winding them up — so they can be their best at school, home, and play. CLARITIN® Syrup is alcohol free, dye free, and has a great fruit flavor, so you can feel good about helping your kids feel better. The most common side effects with CLARITIN® (loratadine) Syrup 10 mg/10 mL occurred about as often as they did with sugar water, including nervousness, wheezing, fatigue, and hyperactivity.

CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR (10 mg loratadine/240 mg pseudoephedrine sulfate, USP) Extended Release Tablets provides relief from a whole range of seasonal allergy symptoms: your stuffy, congested nose; those itchy, watery eyes; that runny nose; your itchy ears; and sneezing, in one convenient tablet. CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR is approved for use in people 12 years of age and older. When your seasonal allergy symptoms include congestion, ask your doctor if CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR may be right for you.

CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR (10 mg loratadine/240 mg pseudoephedrine sulfate, USP) Extended Release Tablets are safe to take as prescribed: one tablet daily for people ages 12 and up. In studies, dry mouth was the most commonly reported side effect. Other side effects including drowsiness and sleeplessness occurred about as often as they did with a sugar pill.

Some people should not take CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR. If you have a history of difficulty in swallowing tablets or any medical problems associated with swallowing abnormalities, you should not take CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR. Due to pseudoephedrine (the decongestant in CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR tablets and many over-the-counter allergy medications), you should not take CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR if you have glaucoma (abnormally high pressure in your eyes), difficulty urinating, severe high blood pressure, severe heart disease, or are taking MAO inhibitors (certain prescription medications that treat depression).

Some people need to be especially careful using CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR. Always take CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR with a full glass of water. Also, the tablets must not be chewed or broken. Check with your healthcare provider before taking CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR if you have high blood pressure; diabetes; heart disease; increased intraocular pressure (eye pressure); thyroid, liver, or kidney problems; enlarged prostate; or if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing a baby. You shouldn't take CLARITIN-D® 24 HOUR with any other antihistamines and decongestants, as too much pseudoephedrine sulfate can cause nervousness, sleeplessness, dizziness, and other related side effects.

CLARITIN-D® 12 HOUR (5 mg loratadine/120 mg pseudoephedrine sulfate, USP) CLARITIN-D® 12 HOUR provides relief from a whole range of seasonal nasal allergy symptoms at once: your stuffy, congested nose; itchy, watery eyes; runny nose; and sneezing, in one convenient tablet. CLARITIN-D® 12 HOUR is approved for use in people 12 years of age and older. Taken twice a day, CLARITIN-D® 12 HOUR provides relief without making you sleepy during the day and without keeping you up at night. Ask your doctor whether CLARITIN-D® 12 HOUR is right for you or someone in your family. CLARITIN-D ® 12 HOUR (5 mg loratadine/120 mg pseudoephedrine sulfate, USP) Extended Release Tablets are safe to take as prescribed: two tablets daily for people ages 12 and up. In studies, sleeplessness and dry mouth were the most commonly reported side effects. Other side effects, including headache, drowsiness, and nervousness, occurred about as often as they did with a sugar pill.

Some people should not take CLARITIN-D ® 12 HOUR. Due to pseudoephedrine (the decongestant in CLARITIN-D® 12 HOUR tablets and many over-the-counter allergy medications), you should not take CLARITIN-D® 12 HOUR if you have glaucoma (abnormally high pressure in your eyes), difficulty urinating, severe high blood pressure, severe heart disease, or are taking MAO inhibitors (certain prescription medications that treat depression).

Some people need to be especially careful using CLARITIN-D® 12 HOUR. Check with your healthcare provider before taking CLARITIN-D® 12 HOUR if you have high blood pressure; diabetes; heart disease; increased intraocular pressure (eye pressure); thyroid, liver, or kidney problems; enlarged prostate; or if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing a baby. You shouldn't take CLARITIN-D®12 HOUR with any other antihistamines and decongestants, as too much pseudoephedrine sulfate can cause nervousness, sleeplessness, dizziness, and other related side effects.
